The last event of the Season – The Golf and Club Dinner: 15th September 2011

If
there was a winner at the golf it most certainly was Will Thomas who
carded an 8 under handicap score. After the golf the dinner was a very
select

affair, and David Haywood welcomed the diners.

Chris Cutforth [left] and David Germain and Peter Salisbury listen to the President’s speech.

The “senior member” John Manners and, on the right [l to r] Ninian Macgregor, Nick Agg-Manning

James Flecker and John Manners.

Mike Swabey, Simon Brewer, Howard Moore, Brian Thompson and Sam Ramsey
paying attention to the President’s words. On the right Richard Brewer
and the Captain of the Golf Club Ron Heron.

Simon Campbell examines the stats to see if his name is amongst the leaders – it was: he was third in the batting averages

and first in the bowling averages.

Nick Agg-Manning, Bruce Gauntlett, James Flecker, John Manners, Chris
Cutforth and David Germain are at the seniors table: on the right
Jeremy Wilkins, Dom Fry, Neil Clark and Sam Ramsey.

The Hampshire Wayfarers CC match: 1st September 2011

Dan Jackson

Sam Ramsey
[left] had an off day and bowled 3 overs for 33 runs. Simon Campbell
[r]  bowled 11 overs with 2 maidens and took 1 for 23.

Chris
Downham [left] opened with Tom Grant and enjoyed an opening stand
of 168  before being bowled for 54. On the right Brian Thompson is
back behind the stumps for the last game of the season.

Barry
Aitken at the scorer’s table [left] with Tom G checking his score. On
the right the Queries celebrate the 3rd wicket, bowled by Simon
Campbell.

Tom
Grant made his last match of the Queries season a good one. He scored
96 from 105 balls faced in 110 minutes and this all happened after he
had bowled 11 overs taking 1 for 41.

The Valley End CC match: 31st August 2011

Jeremy Wilkins (1 for 59 from 12) and Tom Grant (2 for 42 from 12) in the bowling attack.

Harry Farley at the crease with a clip off his toes, and a straight
drive. He was run out just 3 short of his half century. This was his
14th and final match for the Queries this season and he has scored 349
runs including 3 half centuries.

Neil Clark [left] was lbw for 22 and Phil Wise [right] was another of the run out victims, for 8.

[left] David Haywood, Neil Clark keeping and Sam Ramsey at short mid
wicket watch as another Jeremy Wilkins ball misses the bat. Meanwhile,
at the other end of the game, Dan Ellis, despite a lot of cordon
company, did very well to keep his head as he batted out for a draw.

The Frogs CC match: 29th August 2011

[left] Candidate Jack Bramwell bowled 4 overs and took 1 for 11 runs. [right] Neil Clark

lost the battle with the Frogs leg spinner and was bowled for 6.

[left] Tom Grant watches carefully as he leaves the ball. [right] Jack Bramwell presents the full face of the bat.

[left] Jack Bramwell gets right over the ball with a front foot right
to the pitch of the ball. He went on to score 19, the second highest
Query score.  [right] Sam Ramsey smothers the ball. He scored 9
and was last man out lofting the ball to mid on.

John and Josie Collins turned up to watch the match and to sell their
wares.  Josie struggled to keep warm in the van. [right] The
closing overs of the match were very stressful for the Secretary!

Will Langton was the best of the Query batsmen. He faced 95 balls from
4 bowlers, and scored 63 before he was caught behind. The highest score
from a Frog was 28 and the closest score from another Query was 19. He
struck 8 fours and batted for 90 minutes. The clip off his toes on the
left was majestic! – and he survived the stumping appeal on the right.

The All Cannings match: 28th August 2011

There was so little time spent playing cricket, there was no time for photos! only 2 were taken.

Nicholas Foster bowled 2 overs for 2 runs in the first match: and Harry Farley

waits impatiently for his opening partner Tom Norris in the second match!

The Hinton Charterhouse CC match: 25th August 2011

Tom Grant [left] opened the innings, scoring 85 runs. His stand with Vaughn Williams [seen on the right]

was worth 114 runs. Vaughn hit 100 not out to push the Queries total to 251 for 3, sand along the way he hit

eleven 4s and four 6s.

Dan Ellis [left] opened the bowling with Dan Jackson [right] and their opening spell of 7 overs resulted in Hinton

being 27 for 3.  Dan took all three in one triple-wicket maiden !

The Grannies CC match: 21st August 2011

David Haywood and Simon Campbell. David batted with 6 other partners before Simon came in and they enjoyed

a partnership of 55 until David  was out caught for 46. Simon
carried his bat for 69 and declared the innings at 212 for 7 wickets.

David gets one out of the middle.  On the right, Will Langton bowled 9 overs for 47 runs.

We have made a very promising bowling discovery in new candidate Harry Waddington. He bowled with some decent

pace and accuracy, and finished with the impressive figures of 7 overs, 1 maiden, 4 for 19. He clean-bowled all 4 wickets.

He gets into a very high ‘gather’ which he then develops into a powerful delivery stride.

The Farley CC match:  14th August 2011

Angus Haig opened the bowling, taking 2 for 21: on the right Dan Ellis took 1 for 16.

Charlie Palmer bowling (left); he took 2 for 45 from 8. On the right Tom Grant, Ian Perry and

Dan Ellis walking out to field.

Peter Salisbury watching the match with Angus Haig’s father Alex. Pieter Groenewald

on the right enjoyed the conditions much more than Collingbourne and responded with 2 wickets

for 12 runs in 6 overs.

Jon Moore’s batting style is wonderfully correct and very effective:
look at the height of his left elbow and the straightness of the bat!
He scored 28* and secured a win in his first game as a Queries match
manager.

Tom Grant on his way to an unbeaten 84. This was a more positive and ‘correct’

innings than we have seen for some time – less hit through the leg side and more cover drives and shots played

with a straight bat to off. His innings won the day and was great to watch.

The Collingbourne CC match: 11th August 2011

Namibian guest Pieter Groenewald had never experienced cricket in the wet conditions such

as we had at Collingbourne, and whilst he managed 5 overs taking 1 for 18 he could only manage 2 runs

with the bat on a very sticky wicket.

The Cole family in action: BJ on the left flighting in some off spin, and elder brother Pete on the right on his way to 37 runs.

A rare spell of dry weather enabled players to ‘sit out’: Tom Palmer, Hugo Tilney with BJ Cole standing, Simon Cambell

with David Haywood behind, and Sam Ramsey. On the right, Tom Grant was playing for Collingbourne.

The Queries innings ended 6-1-6. the first 6 came from Simon Campbell (left); then a single put David Haywood on strike

and he followed up with a 6 of his own!

The Incogniti CC match at DCC: 8th August 2011

John Beavan had a very good day with the gloves, watched by two senior Queries: Howard Moore

who came to umpire and Peter Salisbury who came to watch.

The before and after: Owen Alsop on the left bowling a wicket ball – and on the right the team gather round to congratulate him.

Will Hopton and Neil Clark needed just 7 overs to score 72 runs to win
the match, Will scored 43* and Neil hit a rapid-fire 57* in just 20
scoring shots, including four 6s and six 4s.

The Tour to Yorkshire

The Druids CC match at Follifoot CC: 28th July 2011

Jeremy Wilkins opened the batting with Mark Fenn. We were chasing 193 in a 40 over match.

Their opening stand was 169.

Mark Fenn hit 20 scoring shots for his 50 and was eventually bowled for 69.

Jeremy Wilkins scored a maiden century. His 50 came in 21 scoring shots and

his century in 38. He was brilliantly caught at square leg for a wonderful 103 and the score

177 for 2.

A general view of the picturesque Follifoot ground.  Mike Fernley
and his son Luke were on holiday in Yorkshire and volunteered

to play. Mike played at Escrick and Harrogate and Luke joined him for this Druids match.

Tom Ainger trying to keep pace with the scoring rate of Mark Fenn and
Jeremy Wilkins(but not the overs!).  On the right is Charlie
Parker. He played for the YGs against us and then joined us for the
next 3 matches. He bowled at Harrogate, took 2 wickets and scored
23: he kept wicket at Ilkley, made a stumping and scored 2; and at
Follifoot he kept wicket again and scored the winning runs. A real all-rounder and a great find for our tour.

The Ilkley CC match: 27th July 2011

David Haywood on the drive, and then chatting to Olly Langton. Joe Dorgan on the right gets ready to drive the ball.

On the left, Tom Grant is about to aim for cow corner!  On the right, Olly Langton drives against the backdrop

of Ilkley Moor.

Jeremy Wilkins and Dan Ellis are last men out whilst on the right James Francis copes with the arithmetic.

Olly Langton enjoys a joke with Joe Dorgan. Jeremy W, James F, Chris Downham, Olly, Dan and Tom Grant.

The Saints CC match at Harrogate CC: 26th July 2011

The team pose in front of the magnificent new pavilion – and then Joe Dorgan goes to his office.

A catch to Simon Campbell off the bowling of Jeremy Wilkins.

The winning pair: Joe Dorgan looks pensive after scoring an unbeaten 144, and Simon Campbell is very happy to be

carrying his bat for 26. At the start of the last 20 overs Queries needed 148 to win. Charlie Parker made a very useful 23,

leaving Simon and Joe to complete the task which they did with 3 overs to spare.

The Yorkshire Gents CC match at Escrick: 25th July 2011

Dan Ellis relaxes after his bowling spell and, on the right, David Haywood, skipper on the day, at the crease.

James Francis in “stand and deliver” mode. Over tea, David Haywood and Jeremy Wilkins enjoy a chat.

Simon Campbell and Joe Dorgan scramble a quick single.  Tom Grant on the right was being very aggressive.

Will Hopton was the Queries dominant batsman, scoring an almost flawless 102

Nick Bunday was Will Hopton’s opening partner and had scored 8 when Richard Moore clean bowled him.

Harry Farley drives his first ball received through the covers:  Jeff Haywood tries to cut one away square.

Richard Moore was playing for the FFs and opened the bowling. On the right, Jon Chitty and Owen Alsop wait their turn to bat.

Harry Farley on the left; Jake Bunday and Sam Ramsey on the right.

The Marlborough Blues match at the College: 13th July

(photos by Ian Perry)

Ian Perry ended up playing for the Blues and so, when waiting to bat and thus available to take photos,

his photos were mostly of the Blues and not the Queries !

Tom Grant kept wicket for the Queries, and here
has Joe Dorgan at 1st slip with Query and Blue James Hall batting. On
the right, Simon Campbell, Tom Grant and David Haywood wait in
the cordon.

Will Hopton rests for a moment during the
fielding session, whilst Ian Perry prepares to face Joe Dorgan.

(photos by Ian Perry)

The Old Boys opening bowler M Prince in full flight but after 2 early wickets, the opening attack was not match

for Neil Clark and (below) Tom Grant.

Tom on the sweep which would eventually get him caught for 37. On the right, ‘BJ’ on the attack before getting

caught behind for 9.

Chris Sloane found the Indian quickie too quick for him, but James Francis sweeps very correctly to the boundary.

But the day belonged to Neil Clark who coming in at 3 with Queries

19 for 1, batted throughout the innings and scored a magnificent187.

The S.O.A CC match at Radley College: 5th July

On the left, Owen
Alsop drives firmly for 4 through the covers on his way to 105*.
On the right Neil Clarke acknowledges the applause from the
pavilion after being out for 93.

The Hampshire Hogs CC match: 3rd July

The opening pair – James Melhorn and Harry Farley

On the left James Melhorn who went on to score 63: on the right Harry Farley who was out in the same over as James for 50.

Their opening stand was 126 runs.

The Dauntsey’s School match: 30th June

Jeremy Wilkins, match manager and skipper, bowled the first over. He finished the match with figures of 5 for 19 from 9.1 overs.

Theo Bossom opened with Jeremy but tore a muscle in his 4th over and left the field. On the right, Sam Ramsey bowls his spin.

Chris Downham, Craig Marshall and Tim Mynott in the cordon. On the right keeper Brian Thompson standing up.

12 for 3 after 5 overs did not make for a happy score board.  On the right Chris Downham on the drive.

Geoff Ramsey cuts one away behind square: he scored 21. On the right Simon Wells tries to hit the quickie square.

The School skipper – and Query – Will Thomas looking supremely

confident on the boundary with refreshment in hand !

The Farley CC match: 29th May

Two photos of Harry Farley in action. Opening with James Illingworth [below] he scored 64 not out whilst James scored 55.

The Queries won the match by 8 wickets.
