We kicked off the Covid-affected 2020 season with a game against Potterne u19s, thanks to the initiative of Ged Montgomery who manages them. They won the toss, batted, and made it to 165 for 9 in their 30 overs. Well done to Will Pembroke and Josh Kelly and to David Bromley who bowled 3 overs and took 3 for 8! Well done to our young bowlers Jack Campbell [2/26], Ollie Bate [0/37], Jack Butler [1/30] and Hugh Norman [1/27] who all bowled quite well for this “early season” outing. Queries had some competent cricketers playing in their star-studded team and our batters were half way to the target in just 8 overs. Sumith Surendran, George Edwards and Jack Bramwell all scored half centuries and retired. We reached the target 5 down with 7 overs to spare but were allowed to bat on to complete the 30 overs.
The other good news is that two of the Potterne players have now joined the Queries – and we warmly welcome Sean Montgomery and Josh Kelly to our ranks.
It was a lovely sunny day. We coped with the sanitizer breaks and Covid regulations quite well; we enjoyed all being out together on a cricket field for the first time this year: and we look forward to the next fixture at Tidworth Ground against The Incogniti CC on the 4th August.
