PERSONALIA
At
Collingbourne on the 12th August, Dan Gibson was back in action, albeit
briefly, with the bat. New candidate leg spinner Chris Golding was
also there - and he took 3 wickets - and we hope to see more of the
pair of them before the season is out.
On the 8th August at Seagry Sam Ramsey's 2 candidates both played and both
did very well playing for Seagry! Dan Gibson scored an impressive 95
runs and Dan Jackson bowled well.
Another
candidate played for the Queries in the Seagry match. Simon Slabbert
has played three times against the Queries for the Frogs and has at
last found time to come and play for the Queries . He scored a
near-flawless 103 not out and drove, swept and hooked the ball
impressively. He also bowled some leg spin and was perhaps too tired
after his innings to demonstrate how well he really can bowl. we
hope he will come and play with us many more times in the future.
Ed
Richardson, brother of Query Tom, is destined to come and live in
Marlborough in September so we hope that we can attract him to play
Query cricket next season. he is an accomplished batsman/keeper.
Well
done to Sam Ramsey for signing up two of his cricketing friends from
Farley CC as candidates for the Queries. We look forward to welcoming
Dan Gibson and Daniel Jackson in a match or two later this season.
We
look forward to welcoming another candidate, someone who played against
us for the SOA CC. Henry Wakefield is still at Radley College where he
plays in the 2nd XI as a bowler / batsman.
We saw Chris Downham and Dominic Fry at first hand today in the Free Foresters match - two very useful cricketers!
We
welcome Chris Downham as a new candidate. Chris has recently stepped
down as skipper of Calne 1st XI and we look forward to his first match
later this month. Chris bats at the top of the order and bowls a medium
pace ball.
Raymond
van Schoor is a 20 year old Namibian player who is in England for the
season. A friend of Barry Aitken, he has now played 2 matches as a
batsman/keeper and shown us all just why he plays for his country. He
is coming to Yorkshire for the tour and will strengthen the side
immensely as long as he doesn't socialise with Wayne Egglestone too
much!
It
was good to renew our acquaintanceship with Clyde Phillips in The
Rifles match. He is back in UK and we hope to see him playing for the
Queries again soon.
We welcome Neil Clark as a new candidate to the Queries. He has
played in the Erlestoke T20 and the Warminster School matches and has
committed to every other match but one for the remainder of the season.
He bats at the top of the order, is a very agile and athletic fielder, bowls a very passable medium pace ball
and can also competently wear the gloves if he has to (see the
Warminster School match report).
Tim Mynott and his son Jack have also signed up as candidates. Tim
bats at the top of the order and bowls medium pace swing: Jack is an
opening bat, is already a fixture in the Dauntsey's 1st XI aged
15, and bowls medium fast. They were on opposite sides in the
Dauntsey's school match, and both have their names down for the
Glamorgan Nomads match.
Paul
Kelly and Yasir Irshad have now completed sufficient games
successfully and both have been invited to join the Club as full
members. Paul has accepted and we warmly welcome him, and we have
yet to hear from Yasir.
We have welcomed new candidates Will Thomas,
Chris Stock, Phil Wise, and Dominic Fry to the Club and we are hoping
that Ben Bradish, Matt Francis, Lee Ward, Simon Slabbert, Mark Merison
and Jonathan Lodwick will accept the invitation to play cricket with
the Queries. Will Thomas and Phil Wise already have played once
and we look forward to seeing them again soon, and Will played against us in the Dauntsey's match. Dominic Fry skippered
Avebury CC against the Queries and is keen to play the occasional
mid-week game.
RESULTS
We
are doing very well this season so far:
- we have won the Avebury, Devizes, Stragglers of Asia, Erlestoke,
Chilmark, Dauntsey's School, Warminster School, Marlborough Blues,
Oxford Downs, Yorkshire Gents, The Saints, and Ilkley CC matches.
- we have lost to the Somerset Stragglers, Old Wellingtonians, The Rifles and UEA Old Boys matches.
- we have drawn the King's School, Monkton Combe School, London NZ, Royal
Household, Hampshire Hogs, SOA, Free Foresters (rain: abandoned as a
draw) and Gloucester Gipsies matches.
- we did not play the Marshfield or Babington House matches due to the weather.
- we did not play the Twenty/20 event as 2 teams withdrew and the event was no longer feasible.
